Phra Si Rattana Chedi

One of the most outstanding structures within the compound of Wat Phra Kaeo is the Phra Si Rattana Chedi, which enshrines relics of the Buddha. This gilded chedi was constructed in imitation to a large chedi at Wat Si Sanphet (above) in Ayutthaya, with the explicit intention of recreating the splendour of the ancient capital and the magical powers of its landmark buildings. The golden mosaic adorning it at present was added during the reign of King Chulalongkorn (1868-1910).
